Take part in one of the largest and longest running wildlife surveys in Britain and count the birds in your garden, park or green space. The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch has been running for 40 years and each year it takes place over three days. So this weekend from Saturday 26th January – Monday 28th January 2019 join in, its a great activity to do as a family.
We’ve put together easy step by step guide for you to follow:
-
Choose a good place to watch from for an hour between 26th & 28th January 2019. Find a window which gives the best view, make sure its comfy, grab yourself a hot drink and some biccis and get ready to record what you see. Print off this handy sheet from RSPB to help you.
-
Relax and watch the birds for an hour
-
Count the maximum number of species you see at any one time. For example, if you see a group of three robins together and later another two then one, count the three. That way you are less unlikely to count the same bird more than once.
-
Visit the Big garden Birdwatch page to record what you have seen this will be available on their website from 26th January 2019. Or just fill out the form (link above) and pop it in the post to the RSPB. Even if you didn’t see anything it’s still useful information.

That’s it! Thank you for helping towards the protection and research of birds.
